And all of a sudden things are happening....

Within a few days my life is being turned upside down.
As I said before I was forced to turn down a job offer in the forestry business. And that dampened my spirits quite a bit.
But then..... things changed.....
First we got visitors; 2 middle ages ladies on mountainbikes...?? Turns out one of them was the "chairman" of the local dog running association. She had learned that I had attended a training evening, but I had not attended since. I explained the reasons; no gear. No harnesses, no kickbike, no means to safely transport the dogs or bikes. No problem, she says. We can loan that from the association!! Well, except the transportation stuff. So we can start training the dogs!! And ourselves.... and work our way up from there.
However not all is well within the livestock hemisphere. We have suffered losses. Serious ones....
First our big red cat Karel went missing. The last time I saw him he made an exhausted impression. Now he has been gone for almost 4 weeks now. I fear he will not return home.... I hope he is happy, wherever he may be.

Another loss is one of our hens. Probably because of all the hubbub in the henhouse regarding sitting on eggs, she decided she was going to do it too, but well away from all that. She picked a place in the garden; well sheltered and hidden. We let her stay, but should've known better. After almost 2 weeks on her eggs, she was gone. We found the nest empty, the eggs cold...... and a few hands full of feathers a few passes away.....
And as if that was not enough we got a real scare today as well. During the day I heard a tremendous racket in the garden; at first I thought our cocks were at it again. They fight quite a lot lately and are anything but gentle, when it comes to the ladies. Downright brutal at times. But no.... we had had company. When we looked out, we saw Sirius inside the henhouse with one or two hens laying beside him. None moved. That was not right. Outside we only found a handful of hens and our two roosters. The rest was gone...... We found this;

All in all we counted six hens and 2 cocks and this year's hatchling was not among them.... We cursed "the fox", for what else could take 7 hens just like that? In broad daylight, right next to the house? But during the afternoon more and more of the m.i.a. hens came back. They had hidden in several places. First the hatchling with its moms (yes, 2 of them!) came out and then the others, one by one. By the time I closed the henhouse for the night everyone seemed to be accounted for!!

Why didn't I go out to check what was going on, when I heard the noise?
I was packing.... I am off for a weekend in the Norwegian highlands of Hedmark!!

And somewhere in the middle, after having dealt with the dampened spirits due to the recruitment failure, I was asked to drive an elderly couple to the trainstation. On my way back home I reached the junction in the village, where I usually turn right to head home. This time however, right before I turned right, I turned left, into the "centre". There, right across the school, is a small local supermarket. It had been closed down a while ago, but the owners were in the race to get the supermarket opened again. And with a new supplier. Wouldn't it be cool if I could get a job there?; my wife and I said to each other the other day.
I had turned left to see if they were there, just to be bold and ask!
And what do you know..... when I arrived the door was wide open. And right behind it were the owners at work. And I just asked.......
Guess what.....

But details will have to worked out still....
